A Tale of Two Cities
If you are a Game of Thrones fan, you are doubtless getting excited about the final season scheduled to air on HBO in April.
[The final scene we saw in the last episode over a year ago was of the undead dragon breathing fire and melting the Wall, a 900-foot-tall barrier made of ice and stone that separates the 7 Kingdoms from the vast realm of the North.]
Beyond the wall, everything is frozen, seemingly in a perpetual state of winter…kind of like Seattle. Trust me, I was there this morning, and have now safely made it back to the other side. No, I’m not suggesting that we need to build a wall. That would be stupid. It is amazing however that this storm treated the fair city of Portland so differently than it did Seattle, especially since meteorologists predicted an absolute “Snowmageddon” for both cities. While much of the Puget Sound got anywhere from 8 to 18”, Portland only got a few flurries and a lot of rain.
We are thankful that Little Prince was spared a snowstorm, as snow really makes everything much more difficult for a production nursery. Everything is growing just as we hoped and planned, and we have many beautiful plants ready go out now in the Portland area, and just as soon as the snow melts up north. We have a fabulous selection of Planter Poppers® (tender succulents) available now, and they are perfect for sunny windows indoors. I’m amazed by the popularity of tender succulents, and I see no end to the demand for them. With our new propagation house, we will have a steady supply of dozens and dozens of varieties year-round. We sell them in flats of 32, with 4 plants each of 8 varieties. If you order multiple flats, we’ll do our best to see that you get a good assortment. We have a nice new crop of air-plants ready to go now too. Check out our Tillandsias in this week’s availability.
Many of our 4” perennials are looking beautiful. The Bellis looks full and is in bloom, and the Phlox s. varieties have nice color as well. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. Every photo was taken this morning, so they show exactly what the crop looks like right now. As I mentioned last week, Little Prince is doing a garden at the Northwest Flower and Garden Festival in Seattle next week. I’ll be staffing the garden all five days, and I’d love it if you would stop by and say hi! I do still have some free passes available if you’d like to go. Email me at [email protected]egon.com if you’d like pick some up.
Have a wonderful week, no matter which side of the wall you find yourself on!
