Cliffhangers…

I’ve always loved a great cliffhanger. You know, when a season is ending on your favorite tv show, and the writers leave you hanging for a whole year sometimes to find out how an exciting moment resolves in the story. Are Jim and Pam going to get together in season 3? Is Jon Snow dead? That would have been a tormenting wait, except that I binge watched the first 6 seasons of Game of Thrones, so literally only had to wait 5 minutes until I found out. (I’m not saying what happened, so no spoiler here) Perhaps one of the greatest cliff-hangers of all time was the question “Who shot J.R? I cared a lot at the time, but now I can’t remember. Was it Cliff Barnes? Somebody help me out here!

CLIFF HANGERS® are also a brand group at Little Prince. It’s those great plants that trail over a rock wall or work well in a container because they cascade over the side. Acaena ‘Blue Haze’ is one of my favorites in this brand, with its powder blue-grey leaves. If it has no where to trail, it also makes a great ground-cover. A few other notable CLIFF HANGERS® are Euonymus fortune ‘Kewensis’, Silene dioica ‘Clifford Moor’ and Erodium r. ‘Bishops Form’. We also have 4 different Vinca minor varieties available, and I’ve grown to appreciate this plant for its ability to quickly cover a slope, making it a great choice for erosion control.

The weather has been simply phenomenal this week. We’ve made great progress on our new propagation greenhouse. Tomorrow we’ll begin installing the 5 miles of Biotherm™ hot water tubing in the beds to provide heat from the bottom up. I can’t wait to get this greenhouse finished. It will give a spectacular boost to out liner production potential.

Finally, I want to say that working at Little Prince and being part of this team is an amazing experience. Even after being here for 5 years now, I’m excited to get to work every single day. I’m listening to the book The Culture Code: The Secrets of Highly Successful Groups by Daniel Coyle and finding it fascinating to learn why some groups perform so well together and others don’t so much. The first few chapters are about creating safety and a sense of belonging. I highly recommend the book for anyone who wants to improve the sense of well being you experience at work or at play.

The past 5 years have been ones of growth and change for all of us who work at Little Prince, and we have many ideas for what we want Little Prince to look like 5 years from now too. We see the nursery continuing to grow. We have lots of room for even more greenhouses, and there are so many plants out there that would be super cool for us to begin to grow. You’ve asked us for new plants and products, and we’ll keep delivering them. Our production staff is growing to meet this demand. The last person Ketch hired to be part of the management team was me, 5 years ago. That changed this week. We’ve gotten to the point that in order to keep serving you well, we needed to bring in someone with fabulous skills, experience in the industry and a shared vision for what Little Prince’s future will be. And they have to get along with us! We are a family here, and so this really was a carefully thought out decision and one we’re immensely happy with. So, without further ado, I’d like to introduce you to….
