The Roaring Twenties….

In western nations, the 1920’s was a decade of economic prosperity and cultural advancement. Are we standing on the brink of a repeat of the Roaring Twenties a century later, and if so, what are the social forces that will carry us into such an optimistic period? This may seem like a crazy question considering the political turmoil we face in this country today, but I have to cling to Abraham Lincoln’s words that the United States was “conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men, (and women) are created equal.” Our current political disfunction is just another crisis “testing whether this nation, or any nation so conceived, and so dedicated, can long endure.”

From a purely horticultural standpoint, I am optimistic that in fact, the Roaring Twenties are indeedupon us. Look at the current trend, or better “craze” for houseplants in this country. Also consider that the dramatic increase in indoor gardening is being driven by a young segment of our population. What an opportunity for those of us in horticultural production, sales and marketing! When you compare the houseplant boom of the 1970’s, which presented significant opportunities for the nursery industry, consider that the population of the US in 1970 was 205 million. Today, our population stands at 332 million. So, we have a scenario where consumers are even more excited than ever to buy plants, and there are 127 million more of them than 50 years ago! To make it even better, back in the 70’s there was not an internet or social media to promote products and ideas. Today, viral videos about plant varieties are commonplace, and Little Prince is poised to be the supplier you can count on to deliver the best, most trendy plants available. Maybe this decade should be called the “Hopping” Twenties. I’d have suggested the Croaking Twenties, but remember, “Our Plant’s Won’t Croak!”

I’m so excited about the growing number of plants we offer at Little Prince. Over the next year, we’ll be introducing you to some 100 or more new plants in production here. Added to our repertoire of 1400 varieties already, were thrilled about the possibilities now and into the future. Right now, you should be ordering Chick Charms™ Gold Nugget, as they look AMAZING. All the plants we’ve listed in our PRINCE OF PARADISE® brand look great and make are wonderful houseplants. We also have good numbers of Albuca spiralis ‘Frizzle Sizzle” now just waiting to be adopted by a loving plant parent! Check out our current availability and we will deliver!

Cheers,

Mark
